Here it is, a couple days after my diagnosis of breast cancer and I’m already blogging about it. On September 4, 2008 I was diagnosed Invasive Ductal Carcinoma, which is the most common form of breast cancer in this country. I am being treated at Sloan Kettering in New York City and am awaiting my next doctor’s appointment to find out what our next step will be. I will not know my course of treatments or the stage of my cancer until some further testing is done. We are hopeful, because of early detection, that it is an early stage.
This in many ways comes as no surprise. My Mother was 52 when she was diagnosed with breast cancer. One of my cousins was 31. I am 35 years old. The statistics are also clear – one in eight women in the U.S. will develop breast cancer in her lifetime. Of course, the timing could have been a little better. My Mother passed away at the end of June of a pre-leukemia type cancer and just two weeks later I went in for my yearly mammogram to find a small mass deep in my left breast.
Even though this has probably been the hardest summer of my life, I also feel lucky to have the support of my father, sister, husband and that I have two young children to keep my spirits bright. I am also very optimistic that my cancer can be treated and that I will be a survivor too.
I hope that in telling my cancer story on this blog, it will inspire you to be more pro-active with your own health and schedule a mammogram today (yearly after the age of 40 if you don’t have any family history of breast cancer).

Okay, we have something else in common, my mother died on March 2 of Alzheimer’s.
If you are willing add me as a survivor gal.
I have the same cancer you do. Are you homone receptive or negative? I am triple negative. I too chose to do a blog right after I was diognosed. It has been the best thing for me and has been a very positive experience. Good luck blogging!
Olá I came here to stop through blog http://cancerspot.org/. Your history is very seemed mine. Unhappyly also I lost my mother in March of this year due to the cancer of the breast. She appeared to it the 57 years and fought during 5 years until losing the war. Had to this, I started to make mamografia of routine every year. This year, to the 37 years, in December, me was detected a nodule of 9 mm in the right breast. Also I made a lumpectomia with ganglion sentry, followed of 3 cycles of quimio+25 sessions of radio+3 cycles of quimio+5 years of tamoxifeno, ufff! My ganglion sentry gave negative, but as I am considered new and by the familiar antecedent, my oncologista also opted to the quimio, the 6 cycles had not been equal because of the cardiac toxicidade that provoked me to a chemistry.
. My cancer is very rare, mucinoso carcinoma, a variant of the invasive ductal carcinoma. I am hormono positive (p+ and e+, therefore are that I have that to make the tamoxifeno) and refusal in hcerb. Also already I was to make the genetic test, because of brac1 and brac2, therefore I have forts possibilities to have mutations in these genes. I soon made the retraction of the blood in the consultation, but I will only know the results daqui the 9 months! I find that I do not go to wait as much time for the reply and am to think to take off the ovários in any way. Also I have two pretty girls:) The 7 Adriana of and Ana of 5 years. Desire you much luck for the results of the analyses and we have that to have much force!
